The Poetry and Poetics Centre was set up and launched in November 2006. One of the most rewarding activities of the Centre has been the Max Harris Poetry Award, now in its second year at the University of South Australia.
The collection Poems in Perspex contains the winning entries of 2007, as judged by Tom Shapcott and Ffion Murphy, the best poems from the 500 that were submitted that year, and also essays on poetics. New and established writers are represented alike.
Anthologies have a particular beauty in the way in which they collect and distil creative juices. They have a fairness of exposure, an equality of individuality and a satisfaction of reading …While we may read it in whichever order takes our fancy, one becomes very conscious of the fact that this book has a very special place on the map of Australian cultural iconography.
